Sheffield United may consider releasing Ismaila Coulibaly from his contract this summer, according to Fotboll Direkt.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan with Swedish outfit AIK and it must be said that the Malian international has not yet impressed his loan club. Coulibaly has made a total of eight appearances in all competitions since making the loan switch back in the winter transfer window.

As per the Swedish media, Chris Wilder does not see Coulibaly being part of his Sheffield United squad next season and as a result may take this summer as an opportunity to cut ties with the midfielder altogether.

The Blades signed Coulibaly for approximately £2 million from Sarpsborg back in the summer window of the 2020/21 campaign, and at the time it was rumoured that Wilder didn’t want the player in the first place. The player never actually featured a single time for the current United chief and was sent on a two-year loan to their sister club Beerschot.

During his time in Belgium Coulibaly’s performances alerted multiple teams around Europe and according to Sky Sports Sheffield United rejected a £12.9 million offer from AC Milan back in the summer of 2021.

Whether the Blades can strike a deal to sell Coulibaly remains to be seen. One thing is for sure; the midfielder will no longer be at the club beyond the summer.
