The best play of the 2024 UFL season might have happened in Week 1.
At the end of the second quarter against the DC Defenders, the San Antonio Brahmas lined up for a 58-yard field-goal attempt. However, punter Brad Wing quickly switched to quarterback and threw a pass to center Alex Mollette for a 40-yard touchdown, giving San Antonio a 20-9 lead.

"That ball was not supposed to come to me," Mollette told ESPN's Cole Cubelic after the fantastic play. "I didn't think it was gonna come to me. But it happened, and I'd just like to thank the big man upstairs that I caught a TD on Easter Sunday."
The UFL formed after the XFL and USFL merged.
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson — who was a defensive lineman for the University of Miami from 1990-94 — is a part owner in the league. He wants to give players the opportunities that he didn't have after his playing days ended.
"It goes back to, I love the game of football," Johnson said Saturday, per The US Sun. "And I love this idea that I'm in a really lucky and fortunate position that I can help create opportunities for players to live their dreams."
Only time will tell if the league succeeds, but at least some players are getting opportunities to continue their careers and make spectacular plays.
