After discussing the standout players at Los Angeles King’s development camp on Wednesday, it’s time to discuss some disappointing players. This comes with the obvious caveat that a poor showing at development camp doesn’t mean much.
The group will likely serve as “Black Aces,” players who practice with the club and experience playoff preparations but don’t actually enter the lineup.

It was too little, too late for Ontario Wednesday evening, as they fell to Bakersfield 3-2. The Reign had a strong first half of the opening frame, however they were not able to find the back of the net, the best chance coming on a breakaway from Samuel Helenius.

In advance of August’s rescheduled U20 World Juniors Championship, LA Kings prospects Samuel Helenius and Kasper Simontaival have been named to Team Finland’s main roster.
Another Kings prospect could be joining the Ontario Reign in the coming weeks when the Finnish Liiga regular season ends. The LA Kings 2021 second-round draft pick Samuel Helenius is expected to join the Ontario Reign when his season with JYP in Liiga is finished.
The second day of the World Juniors didn’t feature either North American team, but there were four other games with big group implications played as all eight European nations were in action.
We’re only two days into the 2022 World Junior Championships and Samuel Helenius is already looking like a potential breakout star for Finland. Last June, the Kings moved up in the NHL Draft to select him 59th overall and then they quickly signed him to an Entry Level Contract a few months ago.

On day one of the 2022 World Junior Championships, three Kings prospects had multi-point performances — including two-goal games from Samuel Helenius and Martin Chromiak — plus Russian defenseman Kirill Kirsanov played nearly half the game vs.
It looked like Samuel Helenius opened the scoring for Finland, but the goal was credited to Brad Lambert. Flash forward to the third period, and Lambert helped the LA Kings 2021 second-rounder light the lamp in Finland’s 3-1 victory over Germany.
LA Kings prospects Kasper Simontaival and Samuel Helenius will represent Team Finland in the 2022 World Junior Championships. The 2022 World Junior Championships will take place on December 26th, 2021 through January 5th, 2022 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta Canada, featuring ten national teams in a round-robin style tournament.
Look for L.A. to make a move at some point in time to add some flexibility.
The LA Kings announced earlier today that forward Samuel Helenius has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the organization, carrying an AAV of $925,000.
Life isn’t slowing down at the LA Kings front office. After just signing first round pick Brandt Clarke to a three-year Entry Level Contract, they’ve come right back and inked second round selection Samuel Helenius to a similar deal.
